Blending Tutorial Intro

This tutorial will teach you how to get a glow effect into your image. This technique will make your image brighter, and it's a neat must-learn trick to on Photoshop. Your final product will be something like this:

Blending Tutorial

1. Open up Photoshop and your image. for this tutorial, I'm going to be using a picture of Cloud and Tifa from Advent Children.

2. Unlock the layer by double-clicking the layer and press OK. Duplicate the layer with Ctrl + J or Layer > Duplicate Layer.

3. Ensure that the duplicated layer is on top your original layer. Apply Gaussian Blur to the duplicated layer with Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Set the radius to 1-3px, depending on how large your image is. I'm going to set it to 3px.

4. Now set the blending mode to either Screen, Overlay, or Soft Light. Screen will give you something lighter, Overlay will give you something darker, and Soft Light will give you something similar to Overlay but still a little different. Here, I used Overlay, and here's my finished product:
