Blending Tutorial Intro

This tutorial will teach you to blend together 2 images to make one. Feathering can be used to blend images as well, but it's not as effective as this blending technique.

Blending Tutorial

1. Take 2 images, roughly around the same size. You can get irregular-sized images for this as well, but it'll just be harder and nonproportional. If you do have images of irregular size, just resize is by Image > Image Size > blah blah blah. Okay, so here, I will be blending 2 images together. Click here and here to see them.

2. Open up Photoshop. Open up your 2 images. Paste one on top of the other, but leave a bit of the bottom image sticking out.

3. Now go to your layers palette and add a "Vector Mask" to each layer by pressing the "Add vector mask" button. Must do it to every layer that you are blending.

4. Select your gradient tool , and make sure it's on the Linear Gradient mode. Also make sure that the colour is from black to white (as shown). Click on a layer you wish to blend. Make sure you click on the Vector Mask, or else you'll just be "gradienting" the whole image. Refer to the layer palette in step 3. Notice that there is a small border around Layer 1. This means that Layer 1's Vector Mask is selected, and you can blend that image. If there is no border, that means it's not selected, so click it right on.

5. Now for the tricky part. You have already selected Layer 1. Using your gradient tool, drag your gradient from the left to the right. Depending on how much you want blended, adjust the size of the gradient line. Just remember to drag your gradient in the opposite direction of the image. So if your image is on the right, blend left to right. If your image is on the left, blend right to left.

6. By now you should have gotten a blended image. Mine would look something like this.

Now you can add whatever effects you want to your blend; brushes, text, templates, whatever. Make it all nice and pretty.

Final Note
